Monument to Book-smugglers in Pasvalys

It is a roofed pole, at the beginning of Kalno Street. This monument was erected in 1995, in Pasvalys where paths of book-smugglers crossed. A sculptor Arūnas Grušas immortalized their memory. The monument stands nearby the book-smuggler Kazys Gumbelevičiaus homestead where Lithuanian press was concealed and distributed: the newspapers such as Varpas “Bell“, Apžvalga “Overview“, Tėvynės sargas “Homeland Guardian“, Ūkininkas “Farmer“, Kryžius “Cross“ as well as prayer books, ABC books and Calendars.
